- What is a coin sorter?
A coin sorter is a coin bank that sorts and stacks pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters into their own coin tubes, and often straight into their coin wrappers. Some coin sorters are also able to sort dollar coins. Most coin sorters use batteries, with a couple of sorters not needing any batteries or electricity to sort. Our coin sorters can be seen here.

Do Piggy Bank World’s coin sorters work with other coins besides US?
At this time we only offer coin sorters for use with USA coins. We are not able to convert the sorters to work with other currencies.

Which is the best coin sorter?
All of our coin sorters ultimately do the same function –sort coins into their individual compartments. All other features will vary, from the aesthetic design of the sorters to their holding capacity. Each coin sorter comes with instructions that specify how many coins may be deposited into the sorter at a time without jamming the bank. The Power Counter and Money Cannon banks are able to sort twice the capacity (2 tubes each of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters) as the other banks, and our Ultra Sorter is able to sort the new dollar coins. The Sort and Lock can not only sort your coins, but also has a compartment tray for dollar bills and coupons, and can be closed and locked with a key.
- Are the coin sorters suitable for young children?
We do have several styles of coin sorters specifically geared towards children, namely the Treasure Banks, the Save-A-Saurus, the Coin Keeper, and the Multi-Colored Money Keepers. While all of the coin sorters can be used by children, it is best to first teach them the basic rules of use and to supervise them if necessary to avoid jamming or breaking the bank.
- Does Piggy Bank World sell piggy banks that must be broken to retrieve the coins?
At this time all of our banks have rubber stopper plugs or some other means of retrieving the coins from the banks. However, our Animal Banks can be custom made without a stopper plug for an additional $5.00. This option is not available on our website, so feel free to call us Toll-Free at 1-(866) 204-7733 to place your order. There is a wait of up to 7 days until such customized piggy banks are ready to ship. The next best alternative to curbing sneaky fingers may be to super-glue that stopper plug in place!
- How big are the coin slots on the piggy banks?
Each piggy bank style is different, but unless otherwise noted all of our banks will fit the US quarter at least. While there are some piggy banks with coin slots that fit even larger coins, be sure to make sure that the coin will be able to come out of the retrievable hole as some holes are smaller than the coin slots (although you could still try shaking the largest coins back through the coin slot).
- Which piggy banks hold dollar bills?
Our Multi-Colored Money Keeper banks have a small compartment for holding folded bills, and the Sort and Lock has a tray with 4 compartments to hold bills. Otherwise, you’ll need to fold your bills up to slip them through the coin slot of the piggy banks.
- Are all of Piggy Bank World’s piggy banks available for personalization?
At this time the only banks that are available for personalization are found in our Personalized Piggy Banks category. Paint pens or permanent markers may work on your bank if you would like to personalize the bank yourself. Please remember that any changes or designs added to your bank are your responsibility and void the warranty and cannot be returned.
- Are mechanical banks suitable for young children?
Young children love our mechanical banks and delight in setting the mechanical function up, depositing the coin, and doing it again (and again!). But remember that our mechanical banks are made of cast iron and are heavy, becoming even heavier when filled with coins. If dropped, the bank could cause pain and injury if it lands on little feet. Please supervise children when using our mechanical banks, and teach them to play with the bank while leaving it in its place.
- How do I find out the value and history of my mechanical bank?
Piggy Bank World is not able to appraise or offer consultations on determining the value of your mechanical bank. Original mechanical banks in good condition are often very valuable, and we recommend that you get as many appraisals as possible. Search online or at your local bookstore for books that talk about the history of mechanical banks, yours in particular, and consult several antique dealers for their opinions and advice as well. If you are a collector or a dealer, and own at least 5 original mechanical banks, consider joining the Mechanical Bank Collectors of America.
- How can I find out the value of my piggy bank or antique coin bank?
Piggy Bank World is not able to appraise or offer consultations on determining the value of your piggy bank or antique coin bank. As with antique mechanical banks, we recommend that you search books that talk about the history of your bank, and consult several antique dealers for their opinions and advice as well.
- Is Piggy Bank World interested in buying my antique coin bank?
We are not purchasing any antique coin banks at this time.
- Can Piggy Bank World custom design a piggy bank for me?
While we are able to produce customized designs, the setup is expensive and only practical for large quantity orders (read: thousands of units). Mainly custom work is offered for businesses or organizations wishing to have a coin bank produced for them in the likeness of a specified image (i.e., their mascot, building, or other theme associated with their company or group). If you are interested in a price quote for custom piggy banks for your upcoming promotion, please contact us.
- What are the biggest piggy banks that Piggy Bank World carries?
The largest piggy banks that we carry at this time are: our Jumbo Personalized Piggy Bank, our Giant Personality Piggy Banks, and our Brass and Aluminum Piggy Banks. Click on the thumbnail picture of the bank you are interested in to see the size dimension. It can be hard to find piggy banks that are much larger, as most of them are made overseas. The cost to transport the large banks must be added into the price, making them unaffordable and not profitable for companies to produce since they require extra padding and bigger boxes to protect them from breaking. However, we are always on the lookout for large piggy banks, so if you know of a source we may be interested in, please contact us.
- Where can I find a replacement rubber plug for my piggy bank?
We have a few different sizes of stopper plugs available for purchase. The cost is $5.00 for a single plug, $6.00 for two, $7.00 for three. If you need more than 3, please contact us for pricing. The price includes first class USPS shipping costs. These are not available for purchase on our website at this time, so please contact us if you would like to place an order.
- Does Piggy Bank World have any musical piggy banks?
At this time we have three musical piggy banks available: our Little Slugger, Pink Baby’s First Musical Piggy Bank, and the Blue Baby’s First Musical Piggy Bank. The Little Slugger bank plays "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" and the Pink and Blue Baby's First Musical Piggy Bank both play "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
- Why do some of the Animal Banks take up to 7 days before they ship?
We have a large number of ceramic Animal Banks available (nearly 200), and due to storage space restrictions for this category there are some animal banks that we do not keep stocked on the shelf. Most of our ceramic Animal Banks are ready to ship within 1 business day, but there is a handful that must be finished (usually requiring painting) before shipping. It typically only takes up to 4 days to prepare these items for shipping, but we must allow up to 7 days--we always get your order out the door to you as quickly as possible! All items in the Animal Banks category specify if they ship within 1 business day or 7 business days in their product description.
- Does Piggy Bank World have an environmental or global impact stance?
At Piggy Bank World we care about the daily impact our company makes on the environment. We recycle as much as our local county allows - this includes all shredded paper as well as all cardboard that we can no longer re-use, our printer and fax ink cartridges, and any other materials we use that can be recycled. We also re-use as many packing peanuts as we can by collecting them from local area gift shops. Any packing peanuts that we must purchase are always biodegradable, water soluble, and compostable. Your package may arrive with a mix of different types of packing peanuts, and we encourage our customers to re-use them again. Many packaging and shipping retail stores will gladly re-use your peanuts if you bring them to them. You can also contact The Plastic Loose Fill Council to find a packing peanut drop off location near you.
One of our goals for the near future is to make Piggy Bank World 100% carbon neutral. We've already started moving in this direction as we presently purchase green energy through our local energy provider.
We will soon be adding a collection of Fair Trade piggy banks and presently several of our lines are made in the USA. Our Animal Banks, Coin Sorters, Belly Banks, and Combination Safe Banks are all made here in America, and we will soon be adding more. Many of our Promotional Piggy Banks are also made in the USA. We also have an ongoing Great Penny Drive through which we financially support important causes in our world.
Also in this global perspective we are proud to be involved with piggy banks simply because they are more often perceived as items to be cherished rather than thrown away after neglect. It is actually quite common for piggy banks to be passed down through generations in the same family. At Piggy Bank World, we take pride in our growth as a company, but we take more pride in our using responsible and progressive practises to achieve this growth.
